Combating gender-based violence

Location
Beni territory, North Kivu

Community awareness-raising on women's rights, violence prevention, and the promotion of equality.

The context

In the East of the DR Congo, conflicts and population displacements have increased gender-based violence. Many cases remain silent, out of fear or lack of knowledge about rights and legal remedies. Survivors often find themselves isolated, and their economic autonomy suffers.

The objectives

  • Raise awareness of women's rights in every neighborhood.
  • Prevent violence by speaking to the entire community, including men.
  • Promote equality within families and community decision-making.
  • Break the isolation of survivors and provide support.

What the project does

Raising awareness. Community sessions, open to everyone, are held neighborhood by neighborhood. They cover women's rights, forms of violence, ways to prevent them, and available remedies.

Support. Survivors receive psychosocial and community support. When they wish, they can join oureconomic empowerment, to regain a stable income.

Relay. Women trained in community leadership take over in their neighborhood and deliver prevention messages themselves.

Empower Women, Empower Communities.
